jammu:In a strong and impassioned call for immediate action, the MLA Contested United Forum J&K (MCUFJK) has demanded the constitution of an Accountability Commission in Jammu & Kashmir to fight corruption effectively. The Forum emphasized that the establishment of this commission is critical to eradicating corruption once and for all in the region.
Addressing the press conference, Haji Shak Mohd, President of the Forum, flanked by Asiff Gill, S. Ravinder Singh Papu, Om Parkash Gupta, Raj Kumar Lalotra, and Ravi Dutt, stressed that all candidates who have contested elections, regardless of their success, share the same intention of working for the betterment of society. "Even those of us who did not succeed in our elections bear the responsibility and right to serve the society. The mission of serving the public is a common goal, and united, we can make a real difference," said Haji Shak Mohd. Everyone has contested the election with a purpose, and that purpose remains unchanged regardless of the outcome of the election results, he added.
Highlighting the persistent corruption plaguing Jammu & Kashmir, Haji Shak Mohd stated that the most effective way to combat corruption is by constitutionally establishing an Accountability Commission with full authority. He reminded the press that several years ago, J&K had an Accountability Commission that played a key role in curbing corruption. "The demand for the immediate re-establishment of this commission is non-negotiable. The people of J&K deserve a system that holds public officials accountable," he added.
Opposing unconstitutional reservations invoked in the administration, such as RBA and ST2, Haji Shak Mohd asserted, "The Constitution allowed reservation for the upliftment of marginalized communities, but certain reservations that have been imposed later are unconstitutional and are not in the best interest of the nation or society. We call upon the government to immediately withdraw these unconstitutional reservations."
Turning his attention to the plight of the elderly, disabled, and helpless, Haji Shak Mohd emphasized the urgent need for the government to increase old-age and disability pensions to Rs 5000 per month. He also called for a simplified process for claiming pensions, particularly for the destitute. "The current system is overly complicated, and many elderly and disabled individuals are unable to navigate the bureaucratic hurdles. There should be a single window for applications, and pensions should be approved within 15 days of submission," he urged.
Addressing another critical issue impacting millions in Jammu & Kashmir, Haji Shak Mohd called on the government to immediately regularize the services of daily wage workers across all departments. "These workers and their families face an uncertain future, and it is the duty of the government to ensure they have job security. This is not just a matter of livelihood; it’s a matter of dignity. The government must take concrete steps to regularize these workers and protect their future," he added.
Haji Shak Mohd concluded by calling upon both the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister to act swiftly and responsibly in these matters. "Government is for the people, by the people, and of the people. It is high time the government aligns its actions with its responsibilities toward the people of Jammu & Kashmir." He further added that it is our firm resolve to continue the fight for justice, accountability, and better governance for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
