Srinagar:Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Awantipora alongwith civil authorities destroyed Poppy cultivation spread over vast area of land.
Police teams of Police Station Awantipora headed by SDPO Awantipora Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti-JKPS alongwith Tehsildar Awantipora Shri Shakeel Ahmad and Naib Tehsildar Shri Mohammad Irfan launched a special drive against Poppy cultivation and destroyed illegally cultivated Poppy Straw spread over large area of land at Padgampora and Sail.
Accordingly, 07 cases under relevant sections of NDPS Act have registered against the accused persons at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Police have already advised all those who have cultivated Poppy or any other Narcotic substances anywhere in Police District Awantipora, to destroy the same on their own, failing which they shall face strict action under law.
