Mirwaiz Detention Case in Court on October 4

Srinagar:
The hearing concerning the house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been scheduled for October 4 in the High Court. Mirwaiz has been under house detention for the past month.

Mirwaiz had previously filed Writ Petition in High Court, which had been listed for hearing in November 2024. “Despite this, he has been subjected to continuous illegal and unauthorised detention without any formal orders from the administration, even while the writ petition is still pending. This detention deprives him of his fundamental rights, including his religious rights. Consequently, he was compelled to file another CMP No. 5884/2024, along with an urgency memo. The CMP is now listed in the Hon’ble High Court for hearing on the 4th (Friday) of this month,” reads a statement.

“It is expected that the Court will provide the necessary relief to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in accordance with the principles of natural justice and human rights, as enshrined in the Constitution, and that he will be released. An appeal is also made to the legal fraternity, political organisations, and human rights groups to raise their voices against this blatant violation of the Mirwaiz’s fundamental rights,” it adds.
