New Delhi:
India and Pakistan, on Thursday, discussed the mechanism along the Line of Control (LoC) and reiterated that the existing mechanisms will be used to resolve misunderstandings at the tactical levels. The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries spoke on the hotline and agreed to discuss the core issues 'in the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders'.

"The two DGMOs agreed to address each other’s core issues & concerns which have the propensity to disturb peace & lead to violence," a joint statement issued by the two sides said.

"Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan held discussions over the established mechanism of hotline contact. The two sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Control and all other sectors in a free, frank and cordial atmosphere," the statement further said.

With this, the existing mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings will be utilised to resolve any unforeseen situation or misunderstanding. Meanwhile, sources within the Indian establishment clarified that the military-level engagement will not, in any way, result in letting-up the counter-infiltration operations along the LoC.

"There will be no let-up in the counter-infiltration and counter-terrorist operations both along the Line of Control and hinterland in Jammu and Kashmir," Army sources were quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The talks come at a time when India and Pakistan have been going through a prolonged diplomatic tension, on the backdrop of frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Islamabad's meddling in India's internal affairs such as abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Pakistan's support to terrorists as non-state actors.
