GDC Vijaypur organises National Level Poster making, slogan writing competition

Jammu:Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a campaign of the Govt. of India that aims to address the issues like female foeticide, declining child sex ratio due to son’s preference prevalent in the society, girl child’s education and empowerment and to generate awareness in order to improve the efficiency of welfare schemes intended for girls in India. Sensing its social responsibility towards an issue of such a paramount importance, GDC Vijaypur organized a National Level Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition on the same theme. Mr. Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner/ Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K was the Chief Patron of the competition. The objective of the competition was to raise awareness about the rights of girls, highlight various atrocities and inequalities that girls face in their daily lives and to acknowledge the importance of girl education, nutrition and health. Students from various Colleges and Universities of the country participated in the competition. In the poster making competition, the first position was shared by Poonam Sharma, BMS Institute of Para Medical Sciences; Rahilla Suhaib, GDC Gandarbal and Shivam Khajuria, SMVDU. The second position was shared by Akhil Mehra, GGM Science College; Samriti, MAM PG College and Meenali, MIET, Jammu whereas the third position was shared by Shifali Rajput and Anmol, GDC Vijaypur. Consolation was awarded to Scienthia Karlupia, APS, BD Bari, Samba. In the slogan writing competition, the first position was shared by Garima Gupta, SKUAST, Jammu; Palak Singh, GCW Gandhinagar and Raghav Banotra, GDC Vijaypur. The second position was shared by Tamanna Sharma, GCW Gandhinagar and Shuvam Mankotia, GDC Billawar whereas the third position was shared by Navleen Kour, GCW Gandhinagar and Ashu Choudhary, GDC Vijaypur. Consolation was awarded to Vishal Sharma, GDC Vijaypur. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ruchi, Department of Sociology. The organizing committee comprised of Prof. Anil Bhagat, Dr. Sunil Mangoch and Dr. Shittal Sharma. Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College thanked all the participants for submitting their thought provoking and innovative entries and for making the event successful. In her message, she emphasized that it is the responsibility of every individual to come forward and remove the inequalities faced by the girls in the society and there shall be no discrimination on the basis of gender between girl and boy child as both needs to be treated equally by the parents and society. She further stressed upon the contributions being made by girls in every sphere of life whether it is sports, science, music, education etc. by quoting many exemplary and outstanding female personalities.
