ANANTNAG:The Department of Pediatrics at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, under the esteemed patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb, proudly announces the commencement of its expanded CME cum workshop titled "Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All." This week-long event, running from August 1 to August 7, 2024, aims to enhance awareness, knowledge, and support for breastfeeding practices.
The Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Showkat Hussain Tali, warmly welcomed the audience and delegates, expressing gratitude for their participation. He emphasized the workshop's crucial role in fostering a supportive environment for breastfeeding.
The inauguration and opening ceremony featured Principal GMC Anantnag, Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb, as Patron, alongside special guests Prof. (Dr.) Sajad Majid Qazi and Deputy MS MCH Hospital, Dr. Shahid Wani.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb underscored the importance of breastfeeding, highlighting its numerous health benefits for both infants and mothers. She emphasized the need for collective efforts to promote and support breastfeeding practices within the community and stressed the importance of community sensitization.
Prof. (Dr.) Sajad Majid Qazi spoke on the significant role of breastfeeding in boosting children's immunity and expressed optimism that the program would greatly contribute to raising awareness about breastfeeding.
An expert talk was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, who provided valuable insights into breastfeeding practices and breast milk substitutes. He stressed that breast milk supplements cannot replace the immunity and protection provided by breast milk.
Throughout the week, the workshop will cover several crucial topics, including:
Breastfeeding and medication
Promotive measures to support optimal breastfeeding
Breastfeeding physiology and its clinical implications
Psychiatric aspects of successful breastfeeding
Importance of breastfeeding support practices
The event was expertly hosted by Dr. Andleeb Majeed, Consultant Pediatrics, who facilitated the proceedings with professionalism and enthusiasm. Attendees included faculty members, consultants, medical officers, postgraduate students, nursing and paramedical staff, among others.
