Srinagar:
A student of class 11th was injured allegedly in firing by government forces in Sopore outskirts of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday.
Official sources said that a youth identified as Ubaid Manzoor son of Manzoor Ahmed Lone of Nadihal Sopore suffered a bullet wound in his right thigh after paramilitary CRPF opened fire during clashes at Nadihal on Baramulla-Handwara highway today morning.
Eyewitnesses said that a group of students was protesting against the recent civilian killing in government forces firing in parts of Valley.
Medical Superintendent, Baramulla hospital, Dr Syed Masood also confirmed that the youth suffered firearm injury in the thigh.
A police officer when contacted confirmed the incident and said that the group of students were protesting and has blocked the road in the area.
In the meantime, a CRPF vehicle passed through the area and the protesting students hurled stones on it, he said, adding that the troopers fired some shots resulting in injuries to the student.
The injured student was immediately shifted to Baramulla district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment, he said.
"A case has been registered and further investigation into the incident has been launched," the officer said.
