Jammu :Prof.Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party & a globetrotter who travelled around the world on peace mission from 1967 to 1973 also visited Portugal in May 1974. He was the first Indian to call on first Portugal’s President, Mr. Mario Soares who was a great socialist revolutionary in that part of the world. Prof.Bhim Singh in his message of peace and friendship to the people of Portugal while welcoming the visit of Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal extended greetings and welcomed the Portuguese President in India. Portugal itself earned democracy with Mario Soares as its first President in 1974. Prof.Bhim Singh was the first Indian to visit and greet Mario Soares, the then Secretary-General of the Democratic Socialist Party of Portugal in 1974.
Prof.Bhim Singh in his welcome address today conveyed the message of goodwill, brotherhood and assured that the people of India, and Portugal shall continue the friendship goodwill which was generated between the people of India and Portugal after Mario Soares took over the Presidency of Portugal.
In 1974, Prof.Bhim Singh as a Youth Congress representative was invited to attend an International Conference of the French Communist Party in France and he visited Portugal on the visit of Democratic Socialist Party of Portugal. Prof.Bhim Singh hoped that the new youth leadership in India associated with progressive, socialist and secular movement shall rise to the occasion and reestablish the relationship of the new generation with the youth of the world so that the people of the world shall join the movement together for international peace, total disarmament, brotherhood and development so that the world shall live in peace, the nuclear weapons shall sink in the sea whereas the UN may succeed to ensure peaceful existence and prosperity of all human beings on earth.
Prof.Bhim Singh appealed to all the Big Powers in the world to follow India’s policy of Non-Alignment, disarmament and respect for all human beings on earth irrespective of their colour, region, country or economic/social status anywhere in the world.
