Srinagar:Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday expressed his dismay over allowing of movie theatres in Saudi Arabia, saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) started His pious mission from this sacred land against “infidels and polytheism” and purified this land from all evils. Geelani in a statement issued to GNS said that opening movie theatres is “un-Islamic” move and against the norms of Islam. “Particularly keeping in view the sanctity of the place, the move is quite disheartening and unacceptable,” he said. Cautioning about the consequences of this move, Geelani said that rulers in Saudi Arabia being the custodian of Holy places like Madina and Makkah, need to take care. “However it is quite unfortunate that present ruling elite are allowing and promoting same obscene culture which Islam has prohibited,” he said. Meanwhile, Geelani expressed deep grief over the killing of Misra Begum in Handwara, saying “forces are resorting to disproportionate and unjustified force against peaceful civilians.” “It is highly condemnable,” said Geelani while extending his condolence and sympathy to the grieved family. Geelani while referring to recent threatening statements from leadership in New Delhi said since then the situation has taken an ugly turn and killing graph has gone up. Meanwhile, on the directions of Geelani, a deputation led by Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Saif u Din Mir and Ab Ahad visited Unsu Handwara and expressed condolences with the bereaved family of Misra Begum.
