KU students continue with protest over colleague’s ‘disappearance’, varsity urges calm

Hundreds of Kashmir University students on the fourth running day on Thursday staged protest demonstrations over the disappearance of a student of the varsity.

Sameer Ahmad Dar from the Department of Earth Sciences went missing on March 19 after leaving his Pulwama residence for the university.

The class work in various departments was disrupted today as the students assembled at the lawn of Humanities department.

Reports said the students marched in protest and demanded the whereabouts of Sameer.

The protesting students staged a sit-in outside the vice-chancellor’s secretariat to press for their demand.

Consequent upon continuing student protests over a student of the Earth Sciences Department who is reported missing after leaving from his residence in Pulwama, the Vice Chancellor Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi again talked to the agitating students and reiterated that the University was equally concerned about the matter.

He once again urged the students to maintain calm and assured that the University was regularly in touch with the police authorities to ascertain the student’s whereabouts.  

The Vice Chancellor also assured the students that as and when any clue about the student was obtained, the same shall be shared with them.

The University reiterates its appeal to the agitating students to maintain a peaceful atmosphere on the campus and also impressed upon the state authorities to proactively help trace the student’s whereabouts.
