Education serves dual function of imparting knowledge to lead an enlightened life on one hand while providing platform to numerous employment opportunities on the other side. University of Jammu strives for achieving world class excellence in teaching, research and knowledge transfer towards making valuable contributions to the socio-economic development of the region and the country. Every year university students get job in diverse areas mainly in teaching, research, administration with majority being in public sector yet, there is a dire need to address the Human resource requirement in corporate sector by developing an appropriate competency value framework. To take this vision further, University of Jammu has established placement Cell, which is functional for the last ten years to facilitate the placements, summer internship and live projects.

With this vision, University of Jammu is mentoring the Placement Cell for progressing towards successful placeability of its students, said Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu. “In order to initiate, nurture and transform the youth to undertake journey towards gaining knowledge and become highly competent work –professionals, and good citizens of tomorrow, University acts as an important platform. Said Prof Dhar. Furthermore to bridge the gaps between the industry and academia, Placement Cells have a great responsibility as is being shouldered by the JU’s placement cell.”

According to Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Dean, Student Placement Cell has been instrumental in achieving good success rate in generating employability for the students of this region. He further added that placement cell is giving special focus to the professional programs such as MBA, MBA (Hospitality & Tourism), MBA(International Business), MCA and  MSc programmes in terms of offering career counselling, internships assistance and providing  placement opportunities.

On an encouraging note, the corporate feedback with regard to the university students has been highly satisfactory. To quantify the outcomes of the placement cell for the current session,  five placement drives of leading companies  have been successfully organised for the passing out batch of 2020. These include – Ceasefire, Pramarica, Jaro Education, ICICI Bank and  ICICI prudential. A total of 42 students have been placed through these placement drives. The details includes 2 students with Ceasefire, 16 with Pramerica, 11 with ICICI prudential, 11 with ICICI Bank and 2 with Jaro Education. It is important to highlight that Ms Tania Anand of The Business School has got the highest package of 8.5 Lakhs CTC from Jaro Education Mumbai. Besides this a large number of students have been helped in terms of providing career counselling, live projects and corporate interactions.

It is worth mentioning that the Placement cell comprises of a dedicated placement committee comprising members from diverse academic areas i.e Dr. Madhulika Bhagat from School of Biotechnology, Dr. Seema Rohmetra from Law School, Dr. Shubhnanadan Jamwal from Department of Computer Science and IT, Dr. Vijay Sehgal from Department of Law and Dr. Shelleka Gupta from The Business School. Beside this committee Ms Shilpa Chaku is a Placement officer  and Varinder Bhatia is functioning as computer assistant Placement Cell.
