Jammu:Jammu University Campus units organized a one day workshop for distance learners on “Youth and Nation Building” in the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu. Around 100 distance learners participated in the workshop. Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairperson NSS campus units inaugurated the workshop. He apprised the volunteers on the aims and objectives of NSS, clarifying that for overall development of youth personality their participation in NSS activities is essential, as it prepares them to contribute in nation building.
Dr. Sandhya Bharadwaj, former senior NSS PO presently in SPMR College of Commerce was the resource person in the first interactive session on “Contribution of Youth in Nation Building.” She demonstrated through live examples that the vigour, energy and zeal of the youth can be channelized for the development of the nation. She called upon volunteers to spread the message of peace.
The second session on “Positive Youth Development” was delivered by Prof. Neeru Sharma. She dwelt at length on the National Youth Policy 2014 focusing on competence, confidence, connection character and caring and compassion among the youth.
The third session on “Youth: Self-Understanding” was conducted by Dr. Anupama Vohra in which she encouraged volunteers to come out with their perspectives on nation and nation building. Seven groups were formed and volunteers made their presentation besides four volunteers made posters which were displayed.
Prof. Darshana Sharma, Director DDE was the Chief Guest in the valedictory session. She congratulated the volunteers and organizers for organizing the workshop on a relevant and visionary theme. Prof. K S Charak delivered the valedictory address. He called upon the volunteers to contribute positively in nation building as youth represents the largest number in our country and through constructive efforts can lead the country to the glory of development. The volunteers were given participation certificate and they pledged to work for the development of society and nation. Dr. Anju Thappa, NSS Programme Officer was the workshop coordinator and presented formal vote of thanks. Dr Nisha Jamwal, Himanshi Chandervanshi, Deepali Kapoor, Dr Parveen Kumari, Shahnwaz, Shiv Dutt, Sumit, Esha, Ajay, Navdeep, Laxmi and other senior volunteers were also were present on the occasion. It was announced that a seven day NSS camp will be organized in the near future for NSS volunteers.
