Gunfight underway in Handwara in north Kashmir: Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said a gunfight is underway between militants and the government forces in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“Encounter at Batpora in Handwara. SFs (Security forces) (are) on job,” police said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, reports said that two to three militants were surrounded by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the forces.

A source said one militant was killed in the ongoing gunfight. However, there was no immediate official confirmation.

SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani told our reporter in Handwara that the searches are going on in the area. "There is no confirmation about the killing of a militant," he said.
