DLSA Samba organises awareness programme on Juvenile Justice

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Samba today organised a legal awareness program on “Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) of Children Act, 2015” and “The NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection) Scheme, 2015” for the children in conflict with law, Members of JJB Samba, CWC Samba and DCP Unit Samba here in the premises of JJ Board.

The crucial event was held under the able aegis of JK Legal Services Authority and as per the Action Plan issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, (JKLSA) for the month of May, 2024 and also under the insightful directions and overall supervision of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Samba, (also Pr. District & Sessions Judge Samba) and Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Rekha Kapoor Nischal,.

Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, DLSA Samba was the Chief Guest of the Programme. In his address, the chairman highlighted the objectives of the NALSA Scheme that outline the basic rights and benefits and educated the participants on child rights and their protection available under the NALSA Child Friendly Scheme.

The event was also attended by Preet Simran K Grover, CJM Samba, Ananta Raina, Principal Magistrate, JJB Samba, Nawaz Shareef, District Child Protection Officer, Samba, Neemisha Rajput, Chairperson, CWC Samba, Hitesh Sharma, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Samba, Members of JJB and CWC Samba, Prosecuting Officer of JJB, Samba, Staff and PLVs of DLSA Samba.

Hitesh, the key speaker of the programme, discussed the NALSA Schemes as well as the rights of the child available under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) of Children Act, 2015.

Neemisha Rajput, Chairperson CWC Samba also spoke on the principles which are to be kept in mind by the Members of JJB and CWC while dealing with Children in need of Care and Protection and Children in Conflict with Law.

Rekha Kapoor Nischal presented a vote of thanks on the occasion whereas Nawaz Shareef presented a formal welcome address. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Tania Pargal, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Samba.

The objective of the programme was to make aware the participants as to what are the basic rights and benefits available to them, role of Legal Services Institutions in bridging the gap between Children in need of Care and Protection and children in Conflict with Law and the Government Departments and also to provide child friendly legal services  to children’. A light refreshment was also served to the Children in Conflict with law who were present in the programme.
