CLUJ seven day NSS Winter Camp under the aegis of Department of Students Welfare concluded at Village Manwal today.Prof Anju Bhasin ,Vice Chancellor of Cluster University was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In her address,she exhorted that the motto of NSS ‘Not me but you’ reflects the essence of selfless service and that these camps and drives are a medium to instill the concept of community service and social responsibility amongst the young volunteers. She further motivated the students to work in rural areas and their adopted villages to render beneficial and meaningful services through educational surveys, health and awareness programmes.

 Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar CLUJ also inspired the young volunteers towards working actively for an ecofriendly environment and persevering our regional cultural heritage which was one the themes of the camp. Dr Sandhya Bharadwaj,Coordinator NSS CLUJ welcomed the guests and stressed on the need to bring NSS volunteers closer to the people whom they are addressing for awareness. The first hand experience would help the volunteers to reach the objective of being a part of NSS and living by the Moto-“Not Me But You”.  The Volunteers presented skits on social issues and the preservation of our cultural and historical heritage. Earlier in the day Volunteers visited the temples of Manwal under the Archeological Survey of India with the expert Dr Sonam Spalzin who took them for “Heritage walk’ and briefed them about the history of the temples. A demonstration by a local expert was also presented for the volunteers about ‘Donna Pattal’ making. The students also took part in the ‘Swachta Abhyan’ by the ASI within the temple premises. Dr Mala Bhasin read the report of the camp. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Twinkle Suri , Dean Students Welfare,CLUJ in which she gave a brief profile of the NSS activities conducted in the preceding two years.The  Programme was compered by Jasleen . Prof Bhopinder Singh,Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Mushtaq Lone, Controller Examination, Prof Ravinder Tickoo and Dr Ranjeet Jamwal, Principals of Constituent Colleges ,Prof Banpreet Kour and Dr Sunil Uppal, Associate Deans, Dr Sanjay Verma and Dr Naveen Anand, Academic Coordinators were also present on the occasion. 

Earlier NSS Winter Camp of Cluster University of Jammu was inaugurated in Govt. SPMR College of Commerce on 18th Feb., 2020 with 125 volunteers, 25 from each college and Programme Officers -Dr Jasvinder Singh, Dr Irfaan, Dr Sarabjeet Reen, Dr Shubhra Jamwal , Dr Narinder Sharma and Dr Rajni Bala from five constituent Colleges of CLUJ-MAM ,GCW Gandhinagar, GGM Science,SPMR and GCOE.These volunteers of the five constituent Colleges have adopted different villages,ChakAvatara by GCW Gandhi Nagar , Village Mandal by MAM , Makwal by SPMR , Panotra Chak by  GGM Science and Marh Dhateryal  by GCOE.

The  two day visit to adopted villages included interactive visits to village Panchayat and  the Sarpanch regarding development programmes, Skill development Schemes for Women and problems faced by the villagers. The volunteers ran a door-to-door awareness programme on Women empowerment, Health and Hygiene, Consumer awareness, Cybercrime, Environment Pollution, Water management and Cleanliness. The volunteers also visited Primary School of the respective villages and interacted with the students.  Skits on various topics like Dowry, Drug Abuse, Save girl child were also staged in respective villages to spread awareness.

On fourth day Volunteers visited their neighbors and questioned them about issues of health and hygiene and made them aware how important it is to keep the surroundings clean for healthy life. NSS volunteers conducted plantation and cleanliness drive in their respective colleges. They planted medicinal and ornamental plants on fifth day. The volunteers also actively participated in the cleanliness drive and cleaned their class rooms, NSS room, corridors and gardens. On sixth day of the camp, two activities were organized. A Poster making competition on the topic- BetiBachao and BetiPadhao  and Slogan Writing Competition on the topic- Swacch Bharat in the respective colleges. The volunteers took part in the activities with great zeal.
