Awareness lecture on investment options in mutual funds

Jammu:
The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, University of Jammu organized an awareness lecture on “Investment Options in Mutual Funds” for the students of M. Com., PGDBRM, PGDAF, PGDMSM, scholars, staff and faculty. The resource person was Mr. Atul Salaria, IFA, ICICI Securities Ltd. Jammu. 

Mr. Salaria touched the basics of mutual fund ranging from how it work and how best it can serve as investment tool. He enlightened the participants about the advantages of mutual funds over other investment options. Investment in mutual fund entails comparatively smaller amount, best for investors who lack the time & knowledge to make complex investment decisions, tax efficient and best suited for different goals like purchase of house, child’s education or marriage, retirement, vacations through wide bouquet of investment options namely, equity schemes, money market schemes, hybrid schemes etc.

 He also dwelled on stock exchanges, NIFTY, SENSEX, SEBI and other regulatory bodies. He further stressed on investment in liquid mutual fund as exit time is readily available, lower transaction cost, provision of updated information pertaining to markets & schemes and constant monitoring by SEBI. However, compared to other investment alternative, the performance of mutual funds are relatively less subject to market risk like economic alterations or new government regulations effecting particular industry or class of industries. He also encouraged the participants to invest in mutual fund with minimum of Rs. 300 or Rs. 500. In the end, he narrated the detailed procedure for acquiring KYC and other formalities for investment in mutual funds. A total of 100 participants attended the lecture. 

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Neetu Andotra, HOD and Dean Faculty of Business Studies. Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, Dr. Tarsem Lal, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Harleen, Dr. Bodh Raj and Mr. Sandeep Patyal also attended the lecture.
