Srinagar:An independent MLA from Kashmir has come under the scanner of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) for his alleged involvement in the infamous terror-funding case presently under under investigation.
Sources said the NIA may soon summon the lawmaker for questioning to the national capital and if need arises he may be taken into custody for detailed inquiry.
Sources said businessman cum "hawala dalaal", Zahoor Watali, who has already been arrested by the NIA, has revealed to the investigators that apart from numerous separatists, he was regularly giving hawala money to the MLA. Sources said the Pakistani handlers of Zahoor Watali wanted him to ensure that money reaches the lawmaker who is "doing the assigned job perfectly."
Sources said the MLA has minted crores of rupees in the money laundering. Sources said NIA has received credible inputs that theMLA has invested in real estate in Dubai and England as well.
The NIA now believes that Pakistani funding could be the reason as to why this MLA was often speaking a pro-separatist language. He had recently disclosed his plans to join Geelani's Hurriyat provided the separatist leader discloses a "roadmap to freedom."
Sources said in the garb of being a "bechara" MLA, this politician secretly minted crores of rupees and presently owns numerous immovable properties in the summer capital of Srinagar as well.
What is interesting about this lawmaker is that he is equally seen close to the security forces. Though he speaks of "atrocities committed by security forces" he doesn't miss a chance to attend parties hosted by the Indian Army.
The last time, his picture, holding a plate full of wazwan at an Iftaar party hosted by Army had gone viral on social media. But within a week, the MLA who is accused of behaving like a "chameleon spoke" again spoke against the Army.
Sources said the NIA is consolidating a detailed report against the MLA and that the same would be shared with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in the Jammu and Kashmir government.
Sources said the Speaker has already got it conveyed to the Union Home Ministry that the day he receives any such formal intimation from the NIA, he would miss no time to serve a show cause notice and place the MLA under immediate suspension if need arises.
Sources said the NIA is completing formalities and that a "summon/notice" would soon be served to the MLA in the coming says while the Legislative Assembly will also be informed about the development.
This lawmaker will be the first mainstream leader to formally land in the hawala racket. Till now mainly the separatist leaders and businessmen had been caught or grilled by the NIA.
Till now, the NIA has arrested around 10 persons, including senior separatist leaders like Nayeem Khan, Shabir Shah, Shahid Ul Islam, and businessman Zahoor Watali in the terror funding case.
Despite repeated attempts the accused MLA couldn't be contacted for comments.
