Jammu:PostGraduate Department of Dogri in collaboration with KunwarViyogi Memorial Trust today organized one day seminar on “Kunwar Viyogi –  Chetein Di Ladi – 2017” in the Brig.Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu in which galaxy of writers, intellectuals, associates & relatives of Kunwar Viyogi, students, scholars, teachers & officers of Jammu University and prominent citizens were present.


Prof. R.D. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion.


Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sharma called for  giving boost to the regional languages, and said that all languages are equally important and are the means of connecting different cultures and observed that languages are not only limited to communication but are also used for knowledge sharing.

Prof. Sharma said that the languages are the means of connecting people to their roots and particularly to the culture and therefore efforts are needed to preserve the regional languages.

Complementing the Trust for promotion of Dogri , Prof. Sharma said that these efforts will go a long way in promoting the rich legacy of the Dogri language.  Prof. Sharma called upon all the stakeholders to come foreword and contribute towards strengthening the university financially as well as academically by organizing various seminars and workshops for the students and researchers of the University.

He further urged upon other language departments of the University to inspire their students for taking up their studies seriously and also prepare them for various competitive examinations in order to make them future ready.

Delivering her welcome address, Prof. Sushma Sharma, Head, Department of Dogri dwelt on various activities of Kunwar Viyogi Mamorial Trsut and also threw light on the seminar. She also hoped that the trust will inspire the students and researchers to contribute towards promotion of the language.

Ms. Poonam Jamwal, Vice-Chairman of KVM Trust while speaking on the occasion highlighted the vision of the trust and dwelt upon the activities taken up by the trust. Dwelling upon the agenda of the trust, Ms. Jamwal urged upon all to carry forward the mission of the Trust for developing Dogri language. She also highlighted the importance of such programmes being organized by the Trust and also informed that the trust is in the process of making a Dogri App which shall be helpful to all in the today's world of IT revolution. She urged upon the students to take inspiration from the works of the great writers and assured that their talent will be given due recognition and platform under the aegis of the KVM Trust. She said that we people have the greater responsibility  in preserving and popularizing this language among our future generations.

Ms. Poonam Jamwal also announced scholarships for the students of Hindi and English department to be instituted from the next year. Further, she also presented a Cheque for Rs. 15 Lakhs to the Vice-Chancellor towards the Trust Endowment Fund.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sucheta Pathania, HoD English lauded the efforts of the Trust and also thanked Ms. Jamwal for associating other departments of the University with the Trust.

On this occasion two papers were also presented by Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Asstt. Professor of Dogri Department, on Pahalian Baangan, a collection of Dogri Sonnets by Kunwar Viyogi and Dr. Garima Gupta Asstt. Professor of English Deptartment on literary works of Kunwar Viyogi. Both the presenters compared the works of Kunwar Viyogi with the prominent writers of their times.


The  Merit Scholarship which was instituted by the Trust last year for toppers of male and female students of M.A. Dogri was also distributed by the Trust. ‘Kunwar Viyogi Merit Scholarship’ and ‘Prem Jamwal Kunwar Viyogi Merit Scholarship’ of Rs 10,000/- each along with a trophy was also awarded to Mr. Naresh Kumar and Ms. Mamta Devi, toppers of MA Dogri Department, University of Jammu in male and female category was also given on the occasion. Mr. Ajay Sharma was awarded Kunwar Viyogi Research Scholarship for his M.Phil research work. Apart from this, certificates were also distributed by the Trust among the toppers, 3 each of English & Dogri Department who appeared in the short-story writing competition held on September 04, 2017 in English Department and 3 toppers of Dogri Poetry recitation competition held in Dogri Department on September 06, 2017.

Prof. Archana Kesar presented vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme whereas the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Juhi Mohan.
