Central University of Jammu in a short span of time has been able to carve a niche for itself at regional as well at national level. The profile of the University clearly reflects a host of activities executed by different departments/centres/cells in terms of academic, extension and research. The Central University of Jammu came into existence with a mandate to be one of India’s leading universities offering innovative, responsive and high quality educational opportunities at undergraduate, post graduate and research levels. The Central University of Jammu started functioning from 08th August 2011 with just three Post Graduate courses and one research programme.

The University has started 6 new programmes from academic session i.e. 2016-17 viz., Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Material Sciences and Technology, Marketing and Supply Chain Management besides two research centres viz. Molecular Biology and Comparative Religions & Civilizations. These new programmes shall enable the students to seek admission into emerging field of specializations offering challenging job opportunities and career prospects.  University is now offering 34 programmes under the aegis of 19 Departments, 02 Research Centres and 01 College. The programmes include 04 Integrated five year programmes, 15 Post Graduate, 12 Research oriented and 02 Vocational types at Under-graduate level. One Diploma course is being offered by the Community College established in 2015 besides the University has succeeded in establishing one research Chair, "The Swami Vivekananda Chair". During the academic year 2016-17 MHRD has sanctioned Rs 9.5 crores under Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teacher Training (PMMMNMTT).At present more than 900 students from across the length and breadth of the country are registered for various academic and research programmes in various disciplines.  Recently, the University has operationalized the Kendriya Vidyalaya approved by MHRD, GOI with an initial intake of 200 students. The University is running these programmes from the Temporary Academic Block, located at Sainik Colony, Jammu and from its main campus situated at Rahya Suchani (Bagla), in the Samba district of Jammu division.

University has witnessed significant increase in number of applicants opting for the various programmes offered by the University which is a testimony of sheer hard work done by teaching fraternity of CUJ during the last few years.  In the year 2014-2015 only 2798 (approx) applications was received by the University against 23400 in 2017-18. The collegium of ten Central Universities conducted CUCET test on 17 and 18 May 2017 and the results for same have been declared as scheduled on 9th June 2017. The performance of the students appears to be remarkable and the University is ready to conduct counseling for admission and dates of which shall be notified shortly.

 University is seeking regular feedback from students/scholars for inspired/innovative teachers. The Competitive Coaching Classes which were organized for the first time in CUJ received overwhelming response from students. The students have also won accolades in national level academic and extramural events. The University strictly adheres to an academic calendar for ensuring smooth completion of programmes in stipulated time. The University has established the Office of International Affairs (OIA) to facilitate the admission of International students.

The University has so for produced 3 PhDs, and 81 M.Phil degrees. At present 112 Integrated M.Phil-PhD/ Ph.D scholars across 14 departments are pursuing their research programmes and most of them are in their final stages of completion. University is able to mobilize resources from various funding agencies for research. The CUJ faculty has been awarded prestigious National/International Fellowships, project funding and recognition and is constantly contributing to various governmental and non- governmental sectors through research, consultancy and outreach activities. At present, more than 35 major/minor research projects of academic and social relevance are undertaken by the faculty members.

University, though in its nascent stage has taken several initiatives for promotion of academic and research by instituting several awards for students and faculty like Best Teacher Award, Best Innovative idea by University student, female entrepreneur/student of the region- Rs.25000.00, Minor Research Projects, Best Researcher award Mathematical Olympiad award etc besides it provides financial assistance for participating in National/International level conferences. Anti-plagiarism reports are made mandatory before submission of research papers/projects/thesis/ dissertation for funding, Faculty/Scholars have to publish 02 research papers in referred Journals.

The University also has been successful in attaining an All India character by admitting students and research scholars across diverse regions of the country, thereby offering a testimony to the nationalistic bonding and the academic spectrum of the Central University of Jammu. To facilitate a student friendly environment and academic enthusiasm, the University is providing free bus service, hostel facilities to all the admitted students who belong to distant areas. Wifi facility on the campus and in hostels, an automated library, and above all, a good sports infrastructure at both the campuses. The CUJ has made a significant progress in terms of national and international linkages by signing 16 National and 02 International Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) some of which include MoUs with Melbourne University, Institute of Chinese Studies, ASHRAY Incubation, Ahmedabad, Central Universities of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir for students and faculty mobility, Administrative Staff College of India, NASSCOM Foundation for Campus Employability Programme and VLCC for Joint Certification programme in Beauty and Wellness. University has also obtained the membership of apexindustry/acdemic bodies like United Nation Academic Impact (UNAI)CII, NHRDN, ISTD, AOITA, AIMA, ISTD, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries etc.Commensurate with the national agenda and local requirements for inculcating entrepreneurial skills among students and the local population, the University has established Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Council, under which the Innovation Cell and the Business Incubation Centre are presently functioning. At present, eight Incubatees are registered for incubation support. 01 IP has also been initiated. Further, the University innovation Cell has identified 10 grass-root innovators, besides mapping the medicinal biodiversity of the campus which is spread over an area of 610 acres. University participated in Innovation Club Members meet at Rashtrapati Bhawan, March 2017 wherein our representative lead a Group of Eight Central Institutions. In the previous academic year too Central University of Jammu was selected to make a presentation along with IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIT- Madras, NIT-Trichy and Jamia, Milia, Islamia at Innovation Club Meet at Rashtarpati Bhavan on 15-03-2016. The growth of the University clearly reflects a visible upward graph in the area of teaching and learning, quality research and publication. Further, the University is endeavoring to qualitatively enhance basic necessary facilities in the class rooms in the form of smart teaching rooms and extensive use of ICT for wider use in the context of multidimensional activities.

As a part of its social outreach University has adopted five villages near its vacinity and one School from each village is adopted for undertaking Capacity Building Programme for Teachers/Administrators and Students-Oriented Support Programmes.

The Central University of Jammu aspires to be one of India’s leading University offering innovative, responsive and high quality educational opportunities at the under graduate, post-graduate and doctoral level. We aim to enable individuals to realize and develop to the fullest, their physical and intellectual potential, promote social and human values and to facilitate pursuit of knowledge and academic excellence.

The growth of the University clearly reflects a visible upward graph in the area of teaching and learning, quality research and publication. This progressive developmental trend is quite visible in infrastructural and support facilities. Another notable fact worth mentioning is that the University possesses Faculty from all over the country. Many innovative proposals for increasing the educational opportunities in varied fields of specializations as submitted by the University are under consideration of various Ministries of GOI.

The University has submitted its Self Study Report in December 2016 for NAAC Accreditation besides participated in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). University has obtained the approval of Management and M.Tech (Computer Science and Technology) programmes from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The AICTE approval will help the M.Tech students in getting scholarship @ Rs 8000/- per month.

University has faculty members from across the length and breadth of country. The students’ and research scholars distribution is spread over 15 states.
